ACTION GOALS
OBJECTIVE: Develop
programs that will enhance the quality of life in the
Daytona Beach and Halifax area, ranging from redevelopment
activities to education.
LEADERSHIP DAYTONA XXVIII
- Prepare up and coming
individuals to assume community leadership roles through
a 12-week program
- Inform participants of
the assets and challenges in the Daytona Beach/Halifax
Area
- Class will go to
Tallahassee on April 3rd for Volusia Day
EDUCATION COMMITTEE
- Serve as liaison
between the School Board, area institutions of higher
education and the Halifax Area business community.
- Address educational
issues and provide recommendations from the viewpoint of
the business community
DOWNTOWN DEVELOPMENT
- Assist in developing
downtown into an attractive, safe and versatile
destination encompassing shopping, residential and park
areas
- Attend and participate
in the Daytona Beach Partnership Association
DAYTONA BEACH LEADERSHIP
COUNCIL
- Serve as the Alumni
Association for Leadership Daytona Beach
- Provide programs
through which alumni members can serve the community
- Hold community forums
on current issues affecting the Halifax Area
2007 ACCOMPLISHMENTS LEADERSHIP DAYTONA XXVIII
- Completed the
twenty-seventh year of Leadership with 29 graduates
participating
- Program included
SIMSCO (simulated society), Ropes Challenge, Legal
System, Transportation, Economic Development, Arts &
Culture and others
- Class members raised
nearly $5,000 to spruce up and provide landscaping for
Family Renew
- Graduation was held on
June 7th
- The Steering Committee
planned for next year’s class and has increased tuition
from $650 to $800 for Chamber members and $1100 for
non-Chamber members
- Applications have been
sent to Chamber and Alumni members with a January 15th
deadline
EDUCATION COMMITTEE
- Over 20 volunteers
taught the Junior Achievement Personal Economics Program
to 10th grade students at Mainland High School focusing
on how to look for a job, job interviews, first
impressions, job applications and long-term budgeting
- Additional volunteers
are also taught the Success Skills program to 11-12
grade students on how to deal with various workplace
situations
DOWNTOWN DEVELOPMENT
- The Chamber attended
the Daytona Beach Partnership Association meetings on a
regular basis
- Worked with the
Association via the Chamber’s Local Government Committee
DAYTONA BEACH LEADERSHIP
COUNCIL
- Presented the 2007
Marvin Samuels Leadership Award to Robin King at the
Chamber’s Annual Meeting in January
- Alumni assisted with
the Chamber Steering Committee in preparing orientation,
general sessions and graduation for Leadership XXVII
- Published four
Leadership newsletters
- Contributed to the
Volusia County Schools Tomorrow’s Leaders Program and
the MLK Scholarship fund
- Council members
participated in the Make A Difference Day on October
27th by assisting the Children’s Home Society
- Distributed its
2007-2008 Membership Directory, which included community
service by its members
