2008 ACTION GOALS

OBJECTIVE: Focus on increasing new membership enrollment and retaining current members by involving them in programs and services that are specific to their needs, adding value to their membership benefits.

MEMBERSHIP (New & Retention)

  • Invite non-chamber member businesses to join the Chamber who have recently applied or are renewing their occupational license
  • Conduct a Membership Drive during the summer
  • Encourage members to participate in the E-mail Blast Program, networking, advertising and promotional opportunities available through Chamber publications and websites

BUSINESS AFTER HOURS

  • Hold a minimum of ten Business After Hours
  • Continue to offer “Speed Networking” program at all Business After Hours
  • Set dates and secure sponsorships

NEW MEMBERSHIP RECEPTION/MEMBER BRIEFINGS

  • Hold quarterly New Membership Reception/Briefings for new and renewing members
  • Outline opportunities for members to promote their business
  • Set dates and secure sponsors

COMMUNITY BUYERS GUIDE

  • Compile member data and advertising
  • Choose printer and assist with layout of Guide
  • Publish the 2009 Community Buyers Guide and distribute by January 2009

CHAMBER MEMBER SURVEYS

  • Survey members each month to gauge their views on specific topics
  • Relay survey results to elected officials

GOVERNMENT RELATIONS NEWSLETTER

  • Prepare monthly updates to keep members informed of federal, state and local issues of interest to the Halifax Area business community

CONGRESSIONAL ACTION COMMITTEE

  • Serve as a liaison between the Halifax business community and Congressional representatives
  • Provide business community input to representatives on Congressional issues

HALIFAX AREA BUSINESS UPDATE / VOLUSIA COUNTY COUNCIL

  • Provide business community input to representatives on Congressional issues
  • Plan and implement a luncheon to update the County Council on issues important to the business community - target date is June

ACCOMPLISHMENTS 2007

LEGISLATIVE ACTION COMMITTEE

  • Completed 2007 Chamber Legislative Priorities Package
  • Attended Legislative session in Tallahassee
  • Sent weekly updates to Chamber members
  • Held Appreciation Breakfast meeting for delegation on May 18th
  • Played a key role in the Volusia Day at the Capital on April 26th
  • Completed recommendations for the 2008 Legislative Session and forwarded them to members of the Volusia delegation

HOMELESS ISSUES COMMITTEE

  • Met on a r egular basis with representatives from the Homeless Coalition of Volusia/Flagler counties
  • Worked with the Coalition to prepare a 10-year plan on managing the homeless in Volusia/Flagler counties

CONGRESSIONAL ACTION COMMITTEE

  • Forwarded list of 2007 recommendations to Senator Mel Martinez, Senator Bill Nelson, Congressman John Mica and Congressman Tom Feeney
  • Maintained contact with our delegation members via conference calls and luncheon meetings
  • Took part in a Washington Fly-In hosted by Congressman John Mica on May 27th

LOCAL GOVERNMENT COMMITTEE

  • Hosted a variety of luncheons with local government department heads and elected officials
  • Worked closely within the Daytona Beach Visioning process
  • Recruited business involvement on the Visioning Stakeholders Committee
  • Encouraged business representation on City and County advisory boards
  • Delivered priority recommendations for 2008 to members of the Volusia County Council and local city commissions/councils
  • Prepared 6-month progress report on the status of recommendations and delivered to the Daytona Beach City Commission and Volusia County Council

VOLUSIA FLAGLER COMMITTEE FOR SMARTER GROWTH

  • Committee members worked closely with VCARD, Volusia Homebuilders, Florida Chamber and the newly formed Floridians for growth
  • Worked to defeat the proposed Hometown Democracy amendment that may appear on the November 2008 ballet

HALIFAX AREA BUSINESS UPDATE / VOLUSIA COUNTY COUNCIL

  • Hosted a luncheon with the County Council on August 23rd to discuss topics of interest including 2007 Chamber priorities, growth management and business development

CHAMBER MEMBER SURVEYS

  • Surveyed members of nine separate occasions in 2007 on a variety of local, state and national issues
  • Results were forwarded to our elected officials for their review

GOVERNMENT RELATIONS NEWSLETTER

  • Compiled information on issues critical to the business community
  • Newsletters were sent monthly, via email, to update members on current issues of interest to the business community

CHAMBER NEWSLETTER (HALIFAX LETTER)

  • Tweaked the new format to include more color photos and graphics
  • Highlighted Chamber goals, initiatives and accomplishments
  • Assure that content remained relevant to Chamber members

ANNUAL REPORT / PLAN OF ACTION

  • Assembled goals and accomplishments from all Chamber departments
  • Edited, produced and distributed The Chamber’s 2007 Plan of Action/ 2006 Annual Report detailing Chamber initiatives and accomplishments for years ‘06 and ‘07

DAYTONA BEACH SPORTS COUNCIL

  • Assisted with the planning for the NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Championships held in May of ‘07
  • Traveled to Athens, Georgia to investigate the possibility of holding a cycling event in Daytona Beach
  • Created an extension of the Daytona Beach Sports Council to include members of the community interested in bringing additional sporting events to the area

EMERGENCY OPERATIONS

  • Attended a “Current Issues in Emergency Management” session in Tallahassee to present the Business Operations Center (BOC) concept to state officials
  • Attended “Regional Florida Catastrophic Planning Workshop” in Palm Harbor, Florida attended by state, regional and federal officials

FUN DAY GOLF TOURNAMENT

  • Marketed event and solicited sponsors and teams
  • Staged the Eleventh Annual Chamber “Fun Day” Golf Tournament on October 22nd at Oceanside Country Club

DAYTONA BEACH YOUNG PROFESSIONALS GROUP

  • Signed agreement with YPG solidifying a partnership with The Chamber through 2009
  • Assisted in the formation and implementation of an organizational change that will include a YPG Executive Committee and Board of Directors
  • Solicited Chamber member hospitality businesses to host 12 YPG socials
  • Completed transfer of YPG website, billing and accounting under Chamber umbrella
